Effectiveness

The effectiveness of the Cahill Ministries Distribution Center can be measured in terms of the results of evaluations performed by various monitoring groups including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the health department and outside independent financial audits. We have passed every inspection and audit with flying colors.

An additional measure of effectiveness relates to the financial management of the organization. The operation is debt free. All of our trucks, equipment, the building and land are paid for.

We continually monitor our operation to find ways to make our operation more efficient and effective in relation to our goal to end hunger in Central Florida.

 

Hunger & Poverty facts

  • Nearly 35 million Americans live in hungry or food insecure households.
  • A survey of 29 major cities found that emergency food requests are up 16 percent. One in five requests for food can not be filled.
  • About 40 percent of the households needing food assistance are working families.
  • An estimated 1.1 million senior adults skip meals because there is no food in the house.
  • About 8.6 million children belong to working poor families.

What is Hunger?

Hunger is defined as food insufficiency due to inadequate economic, family, or community resources.

Who are the Hungry?

  • 61.7% of all food recipients do not have cars so they must walk or use public transportation to obtain their groceries.
  • Recent unemployment is the primary reason for persons needing food assistance. Underemployment is a close second.
  • 66% of the unemployed clients are looking for work. · Poor health is a serious problem for 37.3% of food recipient households.
  • 17.2% of all food recipients are disabled.
  • 73% of emergency food client households have less than $10,000 in annual income.
  • 11.7% of all client households had no income from any source in the past month.
